I was happy to see the recent article on This Is the Place State Park (Deseret News, May 24). Since 1979, I have enjoyed visiting the park and have watched its development over the years from a few lonely pioneer-era structures to a thriving village.

Just to clear up one inaccuracy in the article, the park isn't celebrating its third year this season. Old Deseret Village at This Is the Place has been open for nearly 20 years. Docents and volunteers have served for many years at the village, representing and interpreting pioneer life and skills. If visitors to the village today are willing to forgive a few recent cowboy and western elements that have very little to do with the pioneers, they can still enjoy the spirit and heritage of those who first settled the valleys of old Deseret.Fred Graham
