Street department worker Kurt Bennett searches for cleanout box to drain water at 300 West and 2100 South Thursday. A storm that dumped more than 1/4 inch of rain on the Salt Lake Valley in three hours Thursday morning caused serious flooding in South Salt Lake, forcing temporary road closures along 300 West between 2100 South and 2300 South. South Salt Lake police Sgt. Beau Babka said the area "looked like a lake." In some places the water was more than 2 feet deep, and there was concern that portions of 300 West might be sinking, he said.
