William Howard Smith, age 85, died June 3, 1998 in Bountiful, Utah.

He was born May 11, 1912 in Bountiful, Utah to William Reed and Rose Ella Smith. He married Lois Goodfellow on October 8, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a member of the LDS church.He lived his entire life in Bountiful. As a young man he excelled in leadership capacities and athletics. He earned the award of eagle scout and served as senior class secretary of Davis High School. He was the state discus and shot-put champion. He played football for the University of Utah. He worked in the family milling and dairy farming businesses all his life. Also, he and his wife owned and operated a fruit orchard in Bountiful. His business enterprises required many long and hard hours of work. He was a very steadfast, responsible and dependable individual. He enjoyed recreating with his family at their Bear Lake cabin or snowmobiling in the local mountains. He provided his family with many education and recreation opportunities. He lived a well balanced life full of family, fun and work.

He is survived by three sons, William R. (LuDean) Smith, Bountiful; Mack G. (Carolyn) Smith, Bountiful; J. Lynn (Linda) Smith, M.D., Sandy; daughter, Cindy (Scott) Hatch, Bountiful; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson. Preceded in death by his wife, Lois; brother, Verl Smith; sister, Joyce Goodfellow; and grandson, Douglas Smith.

Funeral service will be held Monday, June 8, 1998 at 12 noon at the Bountiful Hills Chapel, 1200 E Bountiful Hills Dr, Bountiful. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main and again Monday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
