A Cache county man was killed and two other people were injured in a two-car collision just north of Smithfield Tuesday.
Killed was:Thayne Stanley, 68, Lewiston, Cache County.
Stanley was driving north on U.S. 91 with his wife, Thora B. Stanley, about 3:45 p.m. when their car crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, according to a Utah Highway Patrol report.
The car narrowly missed hitting one car but collided with a semi-trailer truck driven by Don Oran, 53, Ogden. The tractor, hauling a trailer filled with cement powder, veered sharply to the right to avoid hitting the car. Following the collision, the tractor left the road and overturned, the report states.
Paramedics transported Thora Stanley, 65, to Logan Regional Hospital. She was later taken by medical helicopter to LDS Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
Oran was also taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital, complaining of neck pains, the report states.
Highway 91 was closed in both directions for about six hours as crews tended to the injured and removed debris from the road. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
