Search and rescue crews renewed the search on the ground and by police helicopter Tuesday for a lost hiker believed to be in the forests near Storm Mountain.
Crews were first dispatched on the search Monday afternoon, after Steve Milne, 27, was reported missing by his father Monday morning.Richard Milne found his son's abandoned truck parked in Big Cottonwood Canyon on Monday. His son had planned a three-hour hike for Saturday morning, Milne told police.
The Milne family didn't worry when Steve Milne didn't show up to play golf with his dad Saturday afternoon. The two men had no definite plans.
The worrying started Sunday, when Steve Milne failed to meet friends for another golf date, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Leslee Collins said.
Family members didn't report Milne missing until Monday because they were uncertain exactly where he had gone to hike. Richard Milne started the search on his own, going to the places he knew his son frequented.
"He's an experienced hiker. He knows the area. It's not uncommon for him to hike up there, but it's unusual for him not to come back," Collins said. "Talking to the family, he's not depressed, he's not suicidal, but the fact that he didn't make it back from a three-hour hike leads us to believe he may have fallen," she said.
