A large syrup spill closed a freeway exit for more than an hour Wednesday morning.
Shortly after 10 a.m., a resident called police after noticing a 500-yard pool of a brown liquid at Exit 335 northbound of I-15, which connects into U-108, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Verdi White II.The freeway was closed while officers called a hazardous material crew to investigate the spill, White said. Other officers followed a trail of the liquid and eventually found the semitrailer truck that had spilled the syrup.
The truck, belonging to Liquid Sugar Inc. of Portland, Ore., apparently had a top hatch that popped off and allowed about 150 gallons of corn syrup to spill as the truck exited the freeway, White said.
Fire and UDOT crews spent about an hour hosing the spill and spreading sand over it. The off-ramp reopened about 11:30 a.m.
