The number of passengers arriving, departing or making connections at Salt Lake International Airport declined 3 percent in March compared with the same month last year.

The monthly traffic figures were released earlier this month.Last year, the airport experienced a drop in annual passenger volume for the first time in 16 years. That trend continued in January and February with drops of 7.4 and 7 percent, respectively.

Traffic volume for the first three months of the year is down 5.7 percent compared to 1997. Airmail volume is off by 7.4 percent so far this year, but the amount of cargo sent and received at the airport is up 3 percent.
