A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.4 struck the south San Francisco Bay area, but no major damages or injuries were reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake hit at 1:31 p.m. Thursday. It was centered along the San Andreas Fault, just south of the town of San Juan Bautista.The epicenter, about 80 miles southeast of San Francisco, is known for frequent seismic activity.
