Richard Knowlton West died of Parkinsons Disease on May 22, 1998 in Orem.

Born February 28, 1916 in Salt Lake City to Geneve Knowlton and Charles Henry Felt West. Graduate of East High, Univ. of Utah, B.S. and M.A. degrees, Bacteriology in `43 and `49. LDS Mission to East Germany and East Central States, `39-`41. Married Mary Jane Snow, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple by President George Albert Smith. Served in the Navy, `44-`46 in medicine, Bremerton, WA and Farragut, ID Hospitals; Farragut POW Camp as interpreter. Worked at Salt Lake City VA Hospital; CIA, FDA and NIH in Washington, D.C. and Raleigh, NC, and LDS Church leadership; Sunday School, Seventies president, High Priest group leader, Ward Clerk, genealogy, Scout Master, Scout Committee Chair and Provo Temple ordinance worker. Had two foster sons. Outstanding Rotarian in `71 and `74. President of NARFE (Retired Federal Employees). Traveled with wife, family in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and Europe.Thanks, VistaCare.

Survived by wife, June West; brother, William West; children, Marianne Elkington, Tooele; Loraine Terpening, Seattle; Richard S. West, Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by sister, Marion; and son, Ronald.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 30, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakeview Stake Center, 1850 So. 400 West, Orem. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary, 185 E. Center St., Provo on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and at the Stake Center, Saturday from 9-10 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
