Our sweet mom, Vera Leona Anderson Squires, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 21, 1998, at a local nursing home.
Born February 12, 1913, in Sandy, Utah, to Yalmer Martin Anderson and Johannah Nelson Anderson, she lived 85 years, all of which she dedicated to serving others so that their lives could be happier.Thank you, Mom, for your precious example. We are so proud of your legacy.
Mom married Dr. F. Boyd Squires, a principal in the Salt Lake City School District for 35 years, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 2, 1937. She loved music (her secret desire was to play the organ in the Salt Lake tabernacle), cooking (her recipe for potato salad could never be matched), gardening (she grew the grandest African violets and Boston ferns in Utah), and being the finest of mothers (her happiest moments were when she heard the front door open and someone call out, "Mom, I'm home!").
She is survived by Grant and Karen Squires (son and daughter-in-law, Salt Lake); Nancy Squires (daughter, Midvale); Barbara Rudy Squires (daughter-in-law, Sandy); seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her only sibling (Ruth Anderson Stefensen), son (Dr. Russel M. Squires), grandson (Jared Meacham). This is a joyous occasion, for Mom is experiencing the reunion that she has long been awaiting. "Hi, Grams, your're finally here!"
Funeral services will be provided by Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, where friends and family may visit 6-8 p.m., on Monday, May 25. Services Tuesday, May 26, 10 a.m., and burial will be at Wasatch lawn, 3401 South Highland Drive.
Mom requested that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Primary children's Hospital Cancer Treatment/Research Department.
We love you, Mom. We celebrate this day with you. And we go on.
