A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Salt Lake Buzz over its continuing trademark dispute with Georgia Tech University.

The ruling, issued Friday, leaves in place a countersuit filed by the school in federal court in Georgia, alleging the Utah minor league baseball team was illegally using its trademark name. While no written opinion was available, U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell apparently sided with Georgia Tech lawyers in their argument that Salt Lake Buzz owner Joe Buzas had lured the school into thinking a negotiated agreement had been reached, only to sue in March.

Campbell refused to rule that the baseball team had not violated trademark agreements and denied a motion to stay the action filed by Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech is home to the "Yellow Jackets" and their mascot, Buzz. It objected to the baseball team's use of the name after learning about it last year.
