Bryce Bentley Orton, 74, passed away May 22, 1998 of heart failure at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Born May 1, 1924 in Parowan, Utah, the son of Lorin S. and Dean B. Orton. Married Thelma Morgan, March 21, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of five children.Survived by his wife, Thelma; three sons and two daughters, Brent (Marla) Orton, Pamela (Garth) Christensen, Debbie (Lee) Clegg, David (Lori) Orton, Chad (Elizabeth) Orton; 26 grandchildren; and sisters, Sara Black, Jetta Ashworth, Jerrolyn Wilden, LoRen Lovell.
Raised in Parowan, he served during World War II in the Army Air Corps. A graduate of Brigham Young University, he received advanced degrees at the Universities of Oregon and Washington. He taught at Ricks College and in the College of Business at Brigham Young University, where he served as Assistant Dean and Acting Dean. He also served on the Provo School Board and in the Utah House of Representatives.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, among his callings he served as a bishop, stake president, and mission president. As a young man he served as a missionary in Eastern Canada Mission, where he met his sweetheart, a fellow missionary. Together they also served missions in New York Rochester Mission, Mexico Guadalajara Mission, and at the MTC in Provo, working with those from foreign countries learning English and teaching leadership classes at the Senior MTC.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 1998 at 12 noon in the Provo North 1st Ward Chapel, 1260 West 1150 North, Provo. Friends may call at the Provo North 1st Ward Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. or on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Entombment will be in the Timpanogas Memorial Gardens, Orem, under the direction of Berg Mortuary, Provo.
