Utah State University trustees have agreed to pay more than $750,000 to install artificial turf in the school's new Stan Laub Indoor Training Center.
USU President George Emert said the money for the project will come from games this fall at football powerhouses Colorado and Washington.Original plans called for the $3.7 million center to be finished last fall and to be built entirely with donations. But USU missed that deadline and the next one, which called for completion this spring.
Now, Emert told trustees Friday, USU hopes to have the center finished in time for the Aggies to run practices this fall before going to Boulder, Colo., for what will be their third game of the season.
The university will get the turf, which must be installed over an asphalt surface, through a five-year lease-purchase plan at 5.13 percent interest.
Emert said private fund-raising for the center will continue, and if that money comes through, USU will use it instead.
