A woman was killed in Millard County when the motorcycle she was riding on slammed to the road Friday in an area west of Delta. And, a man was critically injured when the sports utility vehicle he was riding in rolled in Kearns.
No other serious accidents were reported while the masses of traffic headed south for the holiday weekend.Killed was:
Charlotte Maeder, 64, Park City.
The woman was riding with her husband, Werner Maeder, when they came onto a sharp curve on U.S. 6/50 about 4 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. D. Howard Madsen. The driver leaned over too far to try and make the turn and something on the side of the motorcycle touched the ground.
Werner Maeder was forced to lay the motorcycle down, investigators said. The impact gave Charlotte Maeder fatal injuries. She died at the scene. The motorcycle slid off the road and into a wash.
Paramedics transported Werner Maeder, 71, to LDS Hospital by helicopter. He was in serious condition Friday night. Both were wear-ing helmets.
A man, whose name was not released Friday, was in critical condition at University Hospital Friday night. He was riding in a sports utility vehicle when the driver missed a stop sign at an intersection about 4420 West and 5215 South, Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputies said.
A car heading south crashed into the truck, causing it to roll once about 7:30 p.m. The man wasn't wearing a seat belt and sustained neck injuries. The drivers of the car and truck were wearing seat belts and weren't injured.
