I am impressed with the way citizens along the Wasatch Front have united to effectively fight graffiti. Now let's turn our efforts to eradicate equally offensive graffiti that takes the form of plastic signs nailed on power poles advertising everything from diet programs and insurance to lawn care and yard sales. These signs are illegal and ugly.

I challenge police to enforce current laws regarding these signs. I urge legislators to consider laws against manufacture of or taxes on the sign companies printing these signs. I urge citizens to adopt a street and feel completely in their rights to remove these signs, homemade or otherwise, as soon as they appear. We're sensitive to spray paint; illegal, tacky commercial signage should be just as offensive.
