The field of hopefuls for the vacant City Council seat in Voting District No. 4 has been trimmed from 11 applicants to four finalists.

Those finalists, selected by council members Tuesday night on the basis of community interest and council attendance, are Robert Money, Morgen Peck, David Newton and Steven Bickmore. They will be interviewed by the council in an open meeting May 26 that will begin at 6 p.m. in City Hall, 8000 S. Redwood Road.

After the interviews, the council is expected to appoint a new member to replace Councilman Michael DeMass, who resigned April 30 because he is moving out of the city.

However, an extra meeting tentatively has been scheduled in the event the council does not agree on an appointee at its next session.

The new council member will serve through Dec. 31, 1999, and will be paid $9,780 annually. All council positions are nonpartisan and part time.

DeMass was honored by the council Tuesday night for his years of service on West Jordan's council and planning commission.

But DeMass was unable to attend the meeting because of other commitments and was represented by his wife instead.
