Hyrum Kay Mortensen, a stalwart son of our Heavenly Father, has gone home, joining in a joyful reunion with his parents, brother, son and daughter and countless others who loved him and take joy with him in the completion of his earthly mission.
Born August 1, 1928 in Douglas, Arizona, to Hyrum Knud and Winnie Haynie Mortensen. The family consisted of five boys and two girls: Hyrum, Leo, Rodell, Martin, J. Ross, Jim and Mary L. Hyrum married Doris Moore in the Salt Lake Temple on June 2, 1967. Their home was blessed with ten children: Elizabeth Anne, William Edward, Rebecca Lynn, Kimberly Dawn, twins Holly and Heidi, Hyrum Kimball, Michael Allen, Donna Janeen and KayDee Janell Mortensen. William and Donna met him at the gate.Hyrum was an adventurous person and would do and dare. He and his family lived in many places from Arizona to Alaska, savoring the joy and excitement in each move and getting to know people and places.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Mexico, was a stake missionary, served in many ward positions, but the highlight of his life were the years spent serving in the Temple. He served his country as an Air Force pilot during the Korean War.
He graduated from his mortality, Wednesday, May 20, 1998.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, at 11 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call Friday 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the services. Burial in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
