Developers will be able to avoid open space requirements for subdivisions under certain circumstances.

An amended subdivision ordinance regulating the clustering of homes to create open space was approved Tuesday by the City Council. As changed, developers will be able to move space from one subdivision to another by meeting certain requirements.The amended ordinance also tightens earlier regulations by stating that open space cannot be amended for any other use unless conditions the council specifies are met. The new ordinance also requires that open space be identified on all plat maps, old and new, and is deed restricted.

"I didn't think this would pass," said Karen McCandless, city planner, following the meeting. The Planning Commission earlier recommended against it.
