As many as 400 members of the International Paralympic Committee are set to meet in Salt Lake City in November 1999, giving them a chance to see where the next Winter Games for the world's disabled athletes will be held.
The Salt Lake Organizing Committee sent a delegation to the IPC meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, to pitch Salt Lake City as a meeting site. The decision was made Tuesday."We're pleased the IPC Executive Board has accepted our invitation to host the general assembly in 1999 and we're excited to show off Salt Lake as the home of the Paralympic Winter Games in 2002," SLOC spokesman Frank Zang said.
The event will cost the organizing committee as much as $300,000, money that's already included in its budget for the Paralympics. Funding for the event is coming from corporate sponsors.
