One day after learning how to unlock doors, a 2-year-old boy practiced his new-found skill and set off for a two-hour nocturnal stroll through town.

The toddler, clad in diapers and a striped nightshirt, was found in the street about 4:40 a.m. Monday by Mark Betty, who was delivering The Kansas City Star newspaper.Betty drove the child to a gas station to call for help. A clerk fed the toddler crackers until police arrived to try to find the boy's home.

Officers drove around the neighborhood until they found a house with an open door about two blocks from where the boy was found. They woke a woman inside the house and asked her whether the toddler was hers.

He was.
