A judge has ordered a Salt Lake County man to stand trial on charges of kidnapping a woman and raping her near Utah Lake.

The trial was ordered for Shawn Evan Christensen, 19, who is charged with aggravated kidnapping and rape, both first-degree felonies. Fourth District Judge Lynn W. Davis set a trial date of Aug. 4.Davis also set bail at $100,000 cash only. The bail was set high because of previous problems Christensen has had with obeying court orders, Davis said.

The woman, 27, Salt Lake City, testified Friday of the Jan. 23-24 incident when she was allegedly raped and kidnapped by a man whom she had a relationship with since last October.

She said she approached Christensen, whom she had known for five years, in the parking lot of a counseling center. They then drove separately to Cottonwood Mall to eat lunch. After walking around the mall, the victim said they sat in her car at the mall for five hours.

They then drove together to West Valley City where the victim said she tried to leave, but he would not let her. The woman testified that Chris-ten-sen drove her to Utah Lake, west of Lehi, and raped her.

Christensen has also been charged with witness tampering in Salt Lake County for allegedly stalking and confronting the victim.
