The Army has extended the comment period on the proposed biological warfare test laboratory at Dugway Proving Ground until Aug. 1, Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah, said Wednesday.

The Army said it will begin to evaluate the comments in August, preparatory to issuing a decision on the facility, probably late this year.Hansen, who asked the Army to delay its decision, urged Utahns to send their comments to the Army, either directly or via his office.

"If the people of Utah believe the Army should build the lab, I want to know," Hansen said. "If the people of Utah don't want the test facility built out at Dugway, I want to know that, too."

The facility would be a sealed chamber in which the Army could carry out tests to develop defenses against a biological warfare attack.
