State health officials are warning doctors to be on the lookout for E. coli after eight people were sickened by the food-borne bacteria strain.

One person remained hospitalized as epidemiologists worked to determine the cause. Officials said they may have found a common source of the sickness, but weren't ready to release any details."The most important thing we want to emphasize is if you're having any symptoms to get to a physician or to call the Health Department," said Dr. Crystal Jones, an infectious disease specialist with the Marion County Health Department in Indianapolis.

The state Department of Health posted a physician alert Thursday in Indianapolis and nearby Johnson County. This warns area doctors and hospitals to keep an eye out for people showing symptoms, such as bloody diarrhea.
