Alma F. Harris, a Weber State College management professor, has been named new dean of the WSC School of Business by the college's Institutional Council, effective July 1.

Harris will replace Allen F. Simkins, who left the post last year to become WSC vice president for business affairs. Claude Wynn has served as acting dean for the past year.Harris joined the WSC faculty in 1973. Since that time he has served as chairman of the business administration department and as a management professor.

He received his doctorate from Purdue University and has served as an insurance underwriter, commander of a U.S. Army Reserve unit and a consultant for various corporations, educational institutions and government organizations.

He designed and implemented accountability-based management systems for both Ogden City and Browning Arms, set up a compensation system for Browning Arms, helped design and set up the Columbus Mid-Management Training Center and developed an employee survey instrument for the Utah Department of Social Services.

He has also consulted with Utah Power & Light Co. and the Box Elder and Weber school districts.

Harris is the author of numerous articles and publications in the field of business and management. He is also a licensed psychologist in Utah and certified as a psychometrist in Indiana.

He was a member of the charter revision committee for Ogden City, of the Boy Scout Council Executive Committee and of the North Ogden Economic Development Committee.
