A Rose Park man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after allegedly shooting a man and a woman in a fight.
Nicanor Torres-Galvez, 26, pulled a gun from his waistband and shot three rounds at Jorge Torrez and Guadalupe Torrez on Feb. 3, the charges state.Torres-Galvez and another man were fighting with the victims outside the El Dos De Oros Bar, 996 S. Redwood Road. Jorge Torrez was hit in the chest and hand. Guadalupe Torrez was hit under her arm.
After the shooting, Torres-Galvez traded his car for another one. Because he is not a U.S. citizen, Torres-Galvez is considered a restricted person and cannot legally possess a handgun, the charges state.
Torres-Galvez faces two counts of attempted murder, second-degree felonies; one count of carrying a concealed weapon, a second-degree felony; one count of tampering with evidence, a second-degree felony; and one count of possession of a handgun by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.
He faces enhanced penalties for allegedly using a dangerous weapon in an attempted homicide as well. Torres-Galvez is being held at the Salt Lake County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail and on other outstanding warrants.
