A Tooele County man was critically injured during a two-vehicle crash that closed about a mile of 2100 South for almost eight hours between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Russell F. Fleming, 50, Lake Point, Tooele County, was westbound on 2100 South near 11600 West about 10:15 p.m. when his pickup went over a median island and ran into an eastbound UPS triple-trailer truck, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Verdi White II.The truck hit the left side of the first trailer, tearing out its rear axle, said UHP Sgt. John Graber. The impact flipped the last two trailers of the semi onto their right sides.
Fleming was airlifted to LDS Hospital, where he remained in critical condition Wednesday morning, according to a nursing supervisor. The pickup was a total loss. No one else was injured.
