WOMEN'S TENNIS: Utah faces Colorado in Thursday's opening round of NCAA Central Region play in Provo.

The Utes, who are making a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, and the Buffaloes will meet at 2 p.m. on the BYU outdoor courts.

The Utes finished the regular season with a 13-9 mark, which included an April 12 upset of No. 22 Miami in Salt Lake City.

Leading Utah at No. 1 singles is senior Anna Svedenhov (22-10), who recently was named first-team All-WAC. Ranked No. 65 in the nation, she has been invited to play in the NCAA Championships May 21-29 in South Bend, Ind.

Utah won the consolation bracket of the WAC Tournament and is ranked No. 53 in the nation. Colorado (16-9) is ranked No. 34.

MEN'S GOLF: BYU takes a second-place District VII ranking and an overall national ranking of 23rd into the NCAA West Regional Championship tournament Thursday through Saturday in Tempe, Ariz.

The West Regional tournament consists of 18 teams and two individual qualifiers. The region is made up of NCAA Districts VII and VIII and includes teams from 12 Western states. The course is the 7,027-yard, par-72 Arizona State Karen Golf Course in Tempe.

SOFTBALL HONORS: Utah State placed a pair of players - sophomore first baseman Sandy Millard and junior outfielder Tammy Alcantar - on the All-Big West second team.
