A 6-year-old Provo boy died over the weekend from injuries sustained in a 10-foot fall from a flagpole he was attempting to scale.
Provo firefighters and paramedics treated Shane Stephen Smith, 798 W. 500 South, about 8:40 p.m. Friday for severe head injuries. He was transported to Utah Regional Medical Center where he died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday.Smith was being hoisted up onto the pole by family members when the pole broke, sending the boy tumbling to the pavement. He hit his head on the concrete driveway and was knocked unconscious.
"He sustained significant head injuries which, unfortunately, nobody could do anything about," said Provo Fire spokesman Lynn Schofield.
