In keeping with 20 years of tradition, outstanding high school students have been honored in the Southwest Utah Sterling Scholar Awards.

Sterling Scholar nominees, from Beaver, Bryce Valley, Cedar City, Dixie, Enterprise, Hurricane, Kanab, Milford, Panguitch, Parowan, Pine View, Snow Canyon and Valley high schools, participated in a rigorous judging process at the Kenneth R. Gardner Center on the campus of Dixie College.One winner and two runners-up in each of 14 categories were honored for their excellence in leadership, community service and scholastic endeavors at the awards ceremony at the the M.K. Cox Performing Arts Center at the Dixie Center.

Robert C. Huddleston, president of Dixie College, welcomed students, parents and other supporters to the function. Master of Ceremonies was Max Rose, Academic Vice President at Dixie College.

The winners and runners-up determined at the judging are awarded valuable scholarships offered by 15 institutions of higher learning.

Winners and runners-up:

- English: Winner, Sierra E. Stults of Cedar High; runners-up, Jennifer Bramall of Hurricane High and Kurtess C. Mortensen of Parowan High.

- Speech/drama: Winner, Melanie Thayer of Parowan; runners-up, Tamara Foster of Beaver High and Sara Vreeken of Kanab High.

- Mathematics: Winner, Mark Robinson of Beaver; runners-up, Tami Lyn Walker of Pine View High and Bradley Charles Bundy of Snow Canyon High.

- Social science: Winner, Sara Staheli of Cedar; runners-up, Corey H. Judd of Parowan and Ninfa Lis Paredes of Snow Canyon.

- Science: Winner, Laura K. Jennings of Cedar; runners-up, Kaden Leko of Milford High and Erin E. Moore of Dixie High.

- Visual arts: Winner, Andrea Munford of Cedar; runners-up, Alisha Celeste Tolman of Pine View and Matt Rogers of Valley High.

- Foreign language: Winner, Jennifer L. Drake of Snow Canyon; runners-up, Colby Luke Heideman of Pine View and Erika Ence of Dixie.

- Family, consumer & health science: Winner, Tiffany Anderson of Valley; runners-up, Sara Minchey of Cedar and Shelliann Spor of Dixie.

- Dance: Winner, Kellee Jacobsen of Pine View; runners-up, Summer Ballard of Hurricane and Stacie Webster of Cedar.

- Applied technology: Winner, Ryan Hafen of Snow Canyon; runners-up, Daniel M. Ormond of Cedar and Britten Twitchell of Bryce Valley High.

- Business & marketing education: Winner, Tyler Larson of Dixie; runners-up, Jossie Mortensen of Parowan and Angela Hamblin of Kanab.

- Music: Winner, Bridget Penny of Cedar; runners-up, Melissa Ricks of Pine View and Amber Stucki of Snow Canyon.
