Addie Carter Smith 88, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 1998 in Bountiful, Utah.

She was born August 9, 1909 in Minersville, Utah to Hayward and Inez Etta Roberts Carter. She married Othello H. Smith on May 27, 1927 in Beaver, Utah who preceded her in death on March 8, 1985. Their marriage was solemnized in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on November 10, 1942.Addie was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the West Bountiful 3rd Ward where she served in the Relief Society as a Visiting Teacher and Spiritual Living Teacher for many years. She served a full time LDS Temple Mission in Hawaii along with her three sisters, Nettie, Lois and Bertha. Upon returning she served as a Salt Lake Temple worker.

Before moving to West Bountiful, she and Thell spent most of their married life in Trona and later Whittier, California where she served in both LDS Stake and Ward capacities. She also served as a member of the Trona Unified School District School Board for many years and was a member of the Searles Valley Scholarship Foundation which awarded scholarships to the students of Trona High School. She retired from the El Monte School District as an Assistant District Librarian.

Addie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren and spent many hours of loving service with them. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and devoted many hours to Family History and Genealogy. She was instrumental in compiling a pictorial and historical Book of Remembrance for her family of 10 brothers and sisters and their children.

She did beautiful handwork and sewing, loved flowers, was an avid reader, wrote poetry and many letters of love and encouragement to her loved ones.

Addie is survived by her children, Othello (Viola) H. Smith, Jr., Trona, California; George Austin (Wine) Smith, Fremont, California; Chadwick E. (Dianne) Smith, West Bountiful, Utah. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; two brothers, Max Carter, Minersville, Utah; Rex Carter, Beaver, Utah; three sisters, Nettie Meyers, St George, Utah; Lois Pierson, Cedar City, Utah; Bertha Cusick, Arcadia, California. Preceded in death by her husband, Othello; a son, Pauldin Leroy; a grandson, Danny Smith; three brothers, Darwin Roberts; Frank William; and Sheryl Hayward Carter; and one sister, Leona Carter Roberts.

Friends and family may call at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary (295 N. Main, Bountiful, Utah) on Wednesday, May 13th from 6:30-8 p.m. or from 10:30-11:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14th at the LDS 3rd Ward Chapel (840 N. 800 W., West Bountiful, Utah) prior to the 12 p.m. funeral service. On Friday, May 15, 1998 a viewing will be held from 11-12:30 p.m. at the Minersville, Utah LDS Chapel prior to a 1 p.m. funeral service. Burial will be at the Minersville, Utah Cemetery.
