Mary Lou Williams Loader Powell, age 60, left her earthly body Saturday, May 9, 1998 at her home.
She was born Christmas Day, 1937 in Farmington, Utah to Thelma Sarah Steed and Earl Alfred (Bud) Williams. She was legally adopted by Lars LaVerl Loader and raised in Union, Utah. She attended Jordan High School. She was an exceptional student and was valedictorian of her graduating class. Mary Lou married Billy J. Powell on January 4, 1958. They had six children and were later divorced. She was employed at Utah Power and Light Company until her retirement in 1991. She dearly loved her family, friends and church. She had great faith and served as a Sunday School Pianist, Primary Teacher, Visiting Teacher and in the Relief Society. Mary Lou was fiercely independent. She was an avid reader and loved reading scriptures as well as being a lifelong student of history. Her strong character and quick wit will be greatly missed. Her last acts were thoughtful and giving.Mary Lou was preceded in death by her biological father and her greatly beloved grandparents, Arnold Miller Steed and Hattie Hayes Steed. She is survived by her parents, Thelma and Lars Loader; daughters: Cherie (Brian) Pulham, Alpine; Cindy (George) Abawi, Brigham City; and sons: William Arnold (Julie) Powell, St. George; James Alfred Powell, Magna; George Aaron Powell; and John Alden Powell; both of Alpine. Additional survivors include 17 grandchildren; four sisters and one brother: Susan (John) Diamond; Geniel (Blaine) Harris; Carol (William) Burn; Ann (Weber) Walker; Joseph (Dottie) Loader; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 14, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. in the Temple View Chapel, 676 North Eagle View Drive, Alpine, Utah. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 500 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the Farmington City Cemetery.
