Joseph Fred Welch passed away peacefully May 8, 1998 from complications of cancer.

He was born June 8, 1920 in Lansing, North Carolina to Joseph and Lucy Welch. Married Elsie Dekleva May 24, 1947 in Salt Lake City. She passed away January 7, 1997.Joe was the founder of Welch Heating and Air Conditioning and co-founder of the Utah Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors Association.

Joe loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family. He also was an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time with his golfing "buddies." He was an active member of Cottonwood Presbyterian Church and enjoyed and talked about the many friendships he made there. Veteran of World War II.

Survived by his three children, Michael J.(Colleen) Welch of Murray; Lawrence "Larry" D. (Rachelle) Welch of Denver, CO; Marlene (Paul) Kirkpatrick of Kearns. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, all of whom had a very special place in his heart; brother, John of Lansing, NC; sisters, Ruth Ham of No. Wilkesboro, NC; and Grace Blanton of Shelby, NC. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elsie of 50 years; his parents and brother, Ray.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Presbyterian Church, 1580 E. Vine, Holladay. Friends may call Monday evening, May 11th, 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Estates, 5850 South 900 East, SLC, and Tuesday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.

The family would like to express it's appreciation to the staff of St. Mark's Hospital 3-West and 5-South, and Intermountain Hematology and Oncology for the care and support given to Dad.
