About 30 homes were flooded by rain run-off Friday afternoon.
Storm drains apparently could not handle the accumulation of water along the 3200 South block of Pingree Avenue, and water began to pour into yards and basements about 2:30 p.m., said Ogden police Lt. Clark Combe.Authorities began to evacuate the block, which has about 15 homes on each side, after 5 p.m. as the city's park's and recreation crews began to pump water out of the flooded basements, Combe said.
Electric power and gas was shut off for the block. The Red Cross helped shelter the displaced families for the night, and Ogden police officers provided overnight security.
A damage estimate was not available Friday night.
