Richard Oscar Barnhart, age 77, of Lehi, died May 6, 1998 in Orem, Utah of cancer.

He was born October 28, 1920 in North Loup, Nebraska, son of Alva Bland and Neva Collins Barnhart. Married Ivonne Ruth Helms, August 18, 1946 in Fullerton, Nebraska.He was a supervisor of security at the Utah State Prison. He served in the infantry during World War II. He had resided in Sargent, Nebraska before moving to Lehi. Member of the Mt. Vista United Methodist Church.

Survived by his wife of Lehi; two sons and one daughter, Richard L. (Elaine) Barnhart, Ft. Collins, CO; Philip E. (Linda) Barnhart, Shawnee, OK; Jean I. (Ted) Hellstrom, Highland, UT; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Merlyn Barnhart, Worland, WY; Ben Barnhart, Sargent, NE.

Funeral, Saturday, May 9, 1998 at 3 p.m. in the Wing Mortuary Chapel, 118 E. Main, Lehi, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Service in Nebraska will be held at Palmer's Funeral Home, 210 Irving St., Fullerton, NE, Monday, May 11th, with visitation at 1 p.m., service at 1:30 p.m. and military honors following at the Fullerton City Cemetery, where interment will take place.
