An estimated 582,000 people moved to California last year, the second straight annual increase in the nation's most populous state after a five-year decline.
As of January, there are 33,252,000 California residents, the state Department of Finance said Wednesday.Los Angeles remains far and away the state's largest county, with some 9.6 million residents. San Diego County (2.8 million residents) was second and Orange County (2.7 million) was third.
Also for the second consecutive year, Los Angeles was the country's No. 1 destination of people who moved last year, according to U-Haul, the moving company.
