CODY JOHNSON, Cyprus: Senior recently set two Utah high school records in weightlifting with lifts of 605 pounds in the squat and 290 pounds in the power clean.
He will be taking his powerful 6-foot-4, 250-pound frame to the University of Nevada to play football this fall. He was a Deseret News first-team All-State defensive lineman this past season.Johnson is a top-notch wrestler as well, having finished third in the 4A heavyweight division this winter. He took first in the 275-pound Greco-Roman division and second in the freestyle division at the 1997 Utah state USA meet.
Johnson, a 1998 National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete award winner, is the senior class vice president. He carries a 3.85 GPA in honors classes and is a three-time National Honors Society member.

Johnson has pitched every inning of every varsity game this year for
Cyprus, and she picked up some impressive victories from the mound recently.
Two weeks ago, Johnson fanned seven Olympus batters and then hit a three-run double to give the Pirates a 5-1 victory. A week later, she pitched a two-hitter in Cyprus' 4-2 win over fifth-ranked Bountiful.
Last Thursday, Johnson racked up 10 strikeouts and threw a three-hitter in a 4-2 victory against East.
Johnson is following her older brother Cody's footsteps in excelling at school as well. She's a member of the National Honors Society and maintains a 3.96 GPA in honors courses. She is also the sophomore class president.
