Jay C. Hardy, 78, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998 in Murray, Utah of congestive heart failure.
Born June 1, 1920 in Oakley, Idaho, son of William Gilbert and Jimmie Lee Puckett Hardy. He was raised in the Burley/Oakley area, where he met Leah Hoggan. They married June 27, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Thus began their family unit which occupied the remainder of his days. They spent years in Idaho, Montana and California, residing the last ten years of their time together in Salt Lake City. For the two years since Leah's death, Jay remained in his home until the last few months.Jay was active in the LDS Church his entire life. His service included being a bishop, high councilor, scout leader, various teaching assignments, missionary service in the Denver Temple, and always a faithful home teacher. He was always known as a hard worker who owned his own business at various times and always provided for his family.
Survived by six daughters, Helen McKague, Las Vegas, NV; Louise Fitches, Olivet, MI; Lorraine Potter, Riverside, CA: Carolyn Escujuri, Vale, OR; Kathleen Ricks, El Dorado Hills, CA; Darlene Hales, Bay Point, CA; three sons, Dale Hardy, Grand Junction, CO; Lyle Hardy, West Valley City; David Hardy, Houston, TX; brothers, Rex Hardy, Salt Lake City; Lyn Hardy, OR; 46 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Friday, May 8, 1998, 11 a.m. at the Crystal Heights 1st Ward, 1970 East Stratford Avenue, Salt Lake City where friends may call Thursday, May 7, 1998, 7-9 p.m. and Friday, 10-10:45 a.m. Under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home in cooperation with McKague Valley Mortuary of Driggs, Idaho. Graveside service will be held Saturday, May 9, 1998, 2 p.m. in Oakley, Idaho.
