Alta Clark Griffeth, our sweet mother, grandmother, sister and friend, left this world to join her eternal companion, Ariel, on May 1, 1998 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. While staying at the home of her daughter, Alta left this life as she lived it, with peace and quiet dignity. Her loving example will be remembered by her family and loved ones forever.
She was born September 10, 1911 in Freedom, WY, to Arthur Raymond and Ida Emma Weber Clark. She married Ariel A. Griffeth on June 10, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died December 7, 1972. Alta lived to serve others in her family, church and community. She has held numerous positions in the LDS Church. She served a mission to Rochester, NY with her sister, Hazel; a mission to the Atlanta Georgia Temple with her sister, Wanda; and served as a temple worker in the Ogden and St. George Temples.Alta attended grammar and high school in Star Valley, WY. After graduating from Utah State University, she influenced the lives of countless individuals through her school teaching until her retirement in 1976.
She is survived by two children: VerNon (Annette) Griffeth, Layton; Diane (Gary) Cutler, Fruit Heights; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are a brother, Walter Clark, Ashton, ID; two sisters, Neva Humphries, Etna, WY; Wanda Stock, Fish haven, ID; three step-brothers, Mondell Weber, Ferron, UT; one step-sister, Amy Kent, Othello, WA.
Funeral services Thursday, May 7, 1998 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield, where friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to services. Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield.
