Flav-R-Pac has a new line of frozen vegetable mixes called "Just Add . . . " hamburger, beef and chicken. The dinners you can whip up are based around the flavors: creamy country sage, Japanese yakitori, Oriental garlic and ginger and vegetable stroganoff. The one-pound, 10-ounce packages retail for about $2.89 and make four servings.
Nihla Lake (married, two children at home): "When Karen called to tell us she had a new testing item, we were just leaving for Green River, Wyo. to visit relatives. Imagine our shock and dismay when she handed us frozen beef stroganoff (just add hamburger). Our immediate reaction was `Oh, horrors, the dreaded HH (Hamburger Helper) in another form!' If we cook and share do we run the risk of forever estranging our kin?!"Surprise! Not a negative comment in the crowd. The veggies were crisp and flavorful and the sauce was mild. Bravo! We'll be brave and try the other varieties."
Edyth Jensen (married; son, wife and one grandchild at home): "We added sausage instead of hamburger to our mix and it was good. Everyone seemed to like it. The mix is quick. The only thing I didn't care for was the sauce; I'd make my own next time. You could add chicken and it would be just as good."
Don Russell (married, five children at home): "Our vegetable stroganoff was a little better than we anticipated. While `Just Add' can never be termed gourmet, it did deliver better taste and texture than we were expecting. Our `Just Add' was flavorful and spicy, but not overpowering. The noodles had an appealing texture that we appreciated. I agree with the people at Norpac Foods who claim this dish yields four servings. We got four very colorful and generous servings. Too many manufacturers overstate how many their dish feeds."
Rich Firmage (married, four children, oldest 12 years old): "We tried the creamy country sage flavor and it's very easy and quick to fix. There is everything you need in the package except the chicken. This is very convenient. The sage flavor is quite strong. If you like sage, then you will no doubt like this. It has lots of good vegetables in it, also. We are not big sage lovers, but would like to taste the Oriental flavor which we've heard about."
Bill Allred (married): "Well, I just added chicken. It really is that easy. It's a quick meal and not all that bad. It can be a little bland but that's easily remedied with a few spices. So, if you don't want to clean and cut up all the vegetables and boil rice, you can simply buy this Flav-R-Pac creamy country sage dish and just add chicken."
Conclusion: It's quick, very tasty and actually will feed a family of four. "Just Add" is just great!
