Summit County Republicans voted to eliminate a challenger for the County Commission seat now held by Jim Soter at their party convention Wednesday.

"The incumbent, Jim Soter, won by a landslide. He got 82 percent of the vote," said Thomas E. Brown, Summit County Republican Party chairman. Soter defeated Merrill Duncan, a Synderville Basin resident.Had Soter received less than 66 percent of the vote, a primary race would have been necessary.

Soter will face Democrat Patrick Cone, the chairman of the Summit County Historical Society, in the general election.
