A teenager was killed and two other men injured when the pickup they were riding in rolled and crashed into a tree in Washington County Saturday.
Killed was:Matthew Lyman, 18, Salt Lake City.
Michael Carver, 18, Salt Lake City, and Lance Robinson, 24, Page, Ariz., were both critically injured in the 6:45 a.m. crash. Paramedics transported both men by medical helicopter to different hospitals.
Carver and Lyman, who were picked up by the truck's driver while hitchhiking, were riding in the truck bed. Lyman died instantly when the compact truck hit the juniper tree, said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Kirk Smith. The impact tossed Carver several feet. He received head injuries when he landed.
The truck's driver, Troy Chamberlain, was treated and released at Dixie Regional Medical Center. Chamberlain, 24, Page, Ariz., was driving on U.S. 91 when the compact truck veered to the edge of the road on the right side. He apparently overcorrected and sent the compact truck into a roll, Smith said.
The impact threw Robinson from the truck, giving him head injuries.
