Our loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Ralph Goodsell, passed away to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday morning april 29, 1998.
Ralph was born on November 10, 1923 to Henry John and Hannah Rytting Goodsell in Salt Lake City. Married Catherine Hunt September 25, 1944 in Elko, Nevada. Graduated from West High School in 1941 with the distinction of never missing a day of school in his entire 13 years. Served his country in World War II with the U.S. Navy in Australia.Ralph was a star pitcher and center fielder with the West Panthers baseball team. Later he pitched in semi-pro ball for B.M. Bullough. One of Salt Lake's youth baseball pioneers, he helped found the local Babe Ruth League in 1956. He coached WBBA baseball for over 25 years and helped to develop hundreds of fine young players. In 1965, he assisted his lifelong friend, Jim Cima to capture the WBBA championship in Springville, Utah. He was always proud to claim that he attended every game the West Side Babe Ruth League played in the Pacific Southwest Regional tournaments.
Dedicated employee of PIE Truck lines and Consolidated Freightways, retiring from C.F. with 30 years service. Active member of the Teamsters Union for 40 years. Lifelong resident and proud protector of the Westside.
Ralph is survived by his wife; six children, Earl (aka: Butch), Karen, Randy, Rick (Patti), Richard (Shari), and Kathy; six grandchildren, Justin, Misty, Amanda, Brandy, Richie and Sheena; sister-in-law, Olga Goodsell. Preceded in death by parents; four brothers and three sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff of Federal Heights Rehab Center, for their loving care to Dad.
Graveside services will be Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Raod. A viewing will be held Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South.
