Novell Inc. announced it has recovered pirated copies of its NetWare product with a market value of more than $13.8 million in a settlement with Comptek, a California computer firm.

Novell alleged in a federal lawsuit that Comptek sold unauthorized copies of NetWare and violated Novell and NetWare trademarks. The suit ended in a settlement that included the return of unauthorized products, a cash sum and transfer of ownership of computer equipment from Comptek to Novell.Novell has established an anti-piracy group and investigates more than 500 cases worldwide each year, the company said. Comptek did not return calls from the Deseret News.
