A boy was injured when a car hit his bicycle from behind Monday.

The boy, Vilami Vakapuna, 14, was taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital Monday night, said West Valley police Lt. Lynn Hanson. Vakpuna was discharged Tuesday morning, a hospital spokesman said.Vakapuna was pedaling south on 5600 West near 4000 south when he apparently veered out into the road, witnesses told police. The car, also heading south, struck him from behind, throwing Vakapuna and causing him to tumble, Hanson said.

"Right now, it looks as if he wasn't paying attention," Hanson said. "He veered out into the path of the car and landed on the side of the road. The skid marks the car left are consistent with the posted speed limit on the road."

Paramedics transported the boy with a broken arm and several cuts and scratches, police said. He was disoriented and confused after the 6:15 p.m. crash.
