Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother Raymond Russell Willahan, passed away April 27, 1998 at age 86 at his home in Salt Lake City due to natural causes.
Born August 3, 1911 at Guide Rock, Nebraska to William Carroll and Sadie Leona Vaughan Willahan. He married Grace Lorraine Wellard on May 8, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Ray attended college at South Dakota State, University of Minnesota where he played football, the Art Students League in New York City and the Art Center in Los Angeles. He free lanced in San Francisco and was employed by the Deseret News and Kennecott Copper as a commercial artist. He retired in 1976
Ray was called into military service in 1941. He was sent to basic training near Chicago, then to Fort Douglas and the Salt Lake Air Base, Utah. He advanced to the rank of Captain. While there he attended a USO dance and met Lorraine Wellard. They married and have enjoyed a life of love and happiness together.
Ray joined the LDS Church on October 31, 1958. He served in many capacities including Home Teacher, High Councilor and Temple Worker. Ray love his wife and family. He loved to travel, paint and draw, enjoy nature, golf and spend time with his family. He will be remembered like his fore bearers for his desire to do what was right, his quiet patirence, honesty, humility, kindness and unconditional love.
He was a giant among men.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years; his son William Raymond (Pam), Murray, Utah his daughter Wendy LoRay, Kearns and his son Russell Phillip (Kathy) Kearns. Ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, Sister Lillian Thelma Willahan, West Valley City and many cherished friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday April 29, 1998 at 1 p.m. at the Kearns 16th Ward Chapel 5025 W. 4865 So., Friends may call Wednesday one and a half hours prior to the services. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Road
