FORWARDS: The Jazz were in need of a big-time special delivery, and the Mailman gave them just that in the third quarter. Karl Malone scored 11 of his game-high 29 points as Utah rolled out to a 22-point lead in the period. He also hauled in 10 rebounds. Kevin Willis had another double-double, scoring 10 points with 12 rebounds. He was 3-for-10 from the field, though.
GUARDS: John Stockton again gave Houston's Matt Maloney a clinic on how to play the point. The future Hall-of-Famer looked to shoot more and finished scoring 17 points. He also dished out 10 assists in leading the Jazz to the blowout win. Jeff Harnacek also had a nice game, finishing with 14 points and five assists.
CENTERS: Hakeem Olajuwon scored 16 points in the paint before getting ejected midway through the fourth with two quick "T"s. Greg Ostertag rebounded, literally, with a bang. He grabbed 11 boards in a physical 26 minutes. Greg Foster added seven points and five rebounds, but Big Dawg didn't do much barking.
BENCHES: Shandon Anderson and Bryon Russell each gave the Jazz a boost off the bench as they scored 10 points apiece. Eddie Johnson was the only real contributor off of the Rockets' bench, but his 10 points came on 2-of-7 shooting. Seldom-used rookie Jacque Vaughn saw action late in the game, scoring five points.
COACHING: Rudy Tomjanovich lost his cool several times in the first half. Minutes into the game he picked up a technical foul, complaining about the Jazz's physical play. He was restrained as he barked at the refs right before halftime. Jerry Sloan, on the other hand, was poised as the Jazz evened the series.
