A 10-mile section of the Mississippi River was closed to all boat traffic Saturday because 13 barges that broke loose were missing somewhere along the busy waterway.
The missing barges were among 130 that broke their moorings late Friday. Besides the 13, one barge sank with its cargo of grain, said Coast Guard Lt. David Baugh."The 13 still unaccounted for may be below the surface, they may be pushed up in the trees or on shore, or they may be in with the other barges. We're still trying to get an accurate count," Baugh said.
