Rebecca Ruland, a veteran Peace Corps volunteer, has been named education director for the Canyonlands Field Institute, a prominent nonprofit environmental education program based in Moab.

A native of Grand Junction, Colo., Ruland has designed educational programs for youths in New Mexico and Arizona, and in the Peace Corps she trained teachers in Eritrea and Ethiopia.She will work with CFI's Graduate Residency in Environmental Education students, who learn about the Colorado Plateau's natural and cultural history, develop back-country leadership and medical skills, and who lead programs like the Outdoor Science School.
