A woman was seriously injured during a four-vehicle crash following a two-car chase Sunday afternoon.
Shortly after 2 p.m., Joanne Longcrier, 35, and her 15-year-old daughter were traveling in a car driven by friend Randy Wiece near 5400 South and 2700 West, said Salt Lake County deputy sheriff Peggy Faulkner. While stopped at the intersection, the car was struck by another vehicle driven by Longcrier's husband, Jeff Allred, 36, Faulkner said. Wiece's car was pushed into the intersection where it was struck by two other cars.
Apparently Allred had been chasing his wife following an argument at their apartment, 5624 S. 1900 West, Faulkner said. After the crash, both drivers exited their cars and began a physical fight in the middle of the intersection.
Longcrier was taken by helicopter to University Hospital, where she was treated and later released. Allred was taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was later booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, Faulkner said.
None of the other people involved in the crash sustained serious injuries.
