Eight adults suspected of operating a methamphetamine lab at a house in Kearns were arrested Friday morning by deputies from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office and the Drug Enforcement Agency.

An alert neighbor called police about two weeks ago to say there was suspicious activity going on at the house, 4320 W. 5460 South, deputy Peggy Faulkner said. Police watched the house for a little more than a week before obtaining a search warrant.Deputies and agents served the warrant before 7 a.m. Friday, arresting three women and five men. Methamphetamine labs were set up in the kitchen and in a trailer behind the house, Faulkner said.

A 16-month-old child was also in the house and is now in the custody of the Division of Child and Family Services. The child's mother was arrested, Faulkner said.

The names of those taken into custody were not available Friday morning.

Salt Lake County paramedics and firefighters were also called to the scene to decontaminate all of the people in the house before they were taken into custody, Salt Lake County Fire Capt. Bill Brass said.
